but when i apporved her pix to the collie club i thought she was a smooth collie i didn't know borders even came in merle much less short hair

Of course, border collies come in many many colours and coat lengths

the ones i've known personally are long haired black & white or brindle & white

though in my gallery i have used a border lineart twice to show border aussie mixes I've seen who are long haired but much lighter & more spotty
